SERVICES
AND PROGRAMS
ADOPTIONS
AFV is committed to finding
good homes for the many animals that pass through our shelter each
year. Our highly successful adoption program includes mandatory
spay and neuter requirements.
Adopt an animal at the shelter Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m. Special adoption shows are held every Saturday from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at PETCO, 40474 Winchester in Temecula and at
PETsMART, 29227 Central Ave. in Lake Elsinore. Adoption shows featuring
cats only also are held at the Lake Elsinore PETsMART Thursday
and Friday evenings, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Pet of the Week: Local newspapers feature "Pet of the Week" photos
every Thursday. Watch for adoptable pets every week!
SHOT
CLINICS
Monthly low-cost vaccination
clinics are sponsored by the shelter on the third Saturday of each
month from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The clinics are held at the Lake
Elsinore City Park (near the gazebo), located on the corner of Main
St. and Limited Ave.
Dog and cat
licensing are also available at the shot clinics. (Bring spay/neuter
and rabies certificates if applicable). Contact AFV at 951-674-0618
if you have questions.
HUMANE EDUCATION
AFV recognizes the importance
of providing humane education to our community, especially our young
people. Our program emphasizes fostering humane attitudes toward
all animals and our environment, and promotes responsible animal
care and animal safety. We offer free presentations to schools and
community groups and have educational materials and information
available to all. Please contact our humane educator at
951-471-8344 for more information.
FOSTER PROGRAM
Many animal lives are saved
each year by people like you who take shelter animals into their
homes to care for until they are adopted. Fostering frees up space
in the shelter and gives animals extra time to find their special
homes. Puppies and kittens, as well as adult animals, need foster
homes. For information on becoming a foster parent, call our foster
program coordinator at 951-674-0618 or print out a foster parent
application and foster parent
guidelines sheet.
COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE
AFV also helps our community
by providing the following:
Transportation and financial assistance to those needing
help with spaying or neutering their pet;
Animal licensing for
Canyon Lake, Murrieta, and Temecula
dogs and Lake Elsinore dogs and cats (AFV also sells Riverside County
licenses);
Emergency pet care information.
MICROCHIPPING
A microchip is a foolproof
way of identifying your pet. A microchip is approximately the size
of a grain of rice and contains a unique number which will identify
him to shelter employees, who will contact you should he be brought
to AFV or another shelter. AFV provides microchipping for $15 at
the shelter, our shot clinics, and our Saturday adoption shows at
PETCO in Temecula.
HUMANE EUTHANASIA
AFV is a firm believer in
humane euthanasia for sick, elderly, and injured pets. When
the time comes to say goodbye to your pet, our caring staff will
be here for you. (We will make special arrangements for the
handicapped or seniors who cannot come to the shelter.) Please
call 951-674-0618 for more information.
SENIORS' PET DAY
We regularly take selected
animals to visit residents of senior communities in our area.
The residents enjoy visiting with the animals, and the animals enjoy
themselves, too! If you and your animal would like to participate,
please call Amber Calvert at 951-471-8344 for more information.
